Skull Pinata
Difficulty Rating -
A skull Pinata is always a big hit in more ways then one at a Halloween Party.
The skull Pinata is filled with sweets and goodies; it is then hug up for blindfolded children to take it in turns to hit until all the treats fall out. It's a great party game and an alternative idea to door to door trick or treating.
To make a Skull Pinata you will need...
A balloon, Old newspapers, Sellotape, PVA Glue, Poster paint, A length of cord for hanging the Pinata up and of course sweets and treats to put inside the Pinata.
Blow up the balloon and rip up some newspaper into small squares.
In a dish mix up some PVA glue and water at a ratio of equal parts.
Dunk each square of paper into the glue mixture and stick it onto the balloon. The weight of the sodden paper will mean that the balloon will try to roll around, to stop this happening stand the balloon in a basin. Cover the top half and leave it to dry, then turn the balloon over and cover that in paper too. Leave a hole about 5cm's across without any newspaper; this is for adding the sweets later on.
Add three layers to the balloon and leave to dry completely, over night is best.
Through the hole that was left for adding sweets, burst the balloon and remove it. Fill the 'shell' with sweets and goodies and stick a piece of newspaper over the hole. When the glue has dried, add three layers of ripped up newspapers to the hole.
Leave to dry.
Adding the skull features.
Screw up some newspaper to make Ping-Pong sized balls. Add some Sellotape to hold their form and Sellotape them to the main head.
Roll up some sheets of newspaper together diagonally to make sausage shapes and Sellotape these to the head to outline the eye sockets then bring the newspaper sausage down to the jaws. Use more rolls of newspaper to create the upper and lower jaws, using bit of Sellotape to hold it all into place.
Using a small sausage, make a little loop on the top of the Pinata to thread the cord through for hanging it up.
When you are happy with the way the skull looks, cover the features and the hanging loop in a layer of newspaper and PVA glue.
Leave to dry.
Pain the skull Pinata to look as spooky as possible. Leave to dry.
Add the cord and hang the Pinata up.
Use a wooden spatula as a bat to hit the Skull Pinate. Decorate the spatula with drawings of Halloween images.
Quick tip: If you are using pens to decorate your spatula, move the pens quickly because wood soaks up the ink and makes the lines bleed a little.
Varnish your spatula and use it year ofer year.
